Historical Approach
How can people change their community? How can individuals be agents of change? What can we learn from the past? Consider the path people PAVE in their community.
Ask yourself:
P- Period - What are the issues of their period? What is the social, political, or economic context of the historical figures' life?
A- Agency - How did the person act? How did he or she use his or her rights and responsibilities as citizens?
V- Values - What value did the historical figure advocate? What are the sides of the issue?
E- Engagement - How did the historical figure engage others in efforts to make change? How did they connect with others to forward their values?
Use the lives of historical figures and these questions to better understand how citizens exercise their rights to impact their community. What kind of path did they PAVE? Did they create change? Did they ensure continuity?
